I wrote some software today to automatically process download requests so there will no longer be a wait time. Thanks for your patience in the past.

I activated all of the remaining download requests today. If you sent a request in the last few weeks you should have gotten an email today with instruction on how to download. Sorry about the delay.

There was a minor bug that slipped in at the last minute that was causing the editor to crash when new projects were created... the fix has been in the development version for a few weeks, but I just added it to the release 2.7.5 installer, so download it again if you're having this problem.

In addition to the versioned production builds on the downloads page, I also post occasional development snapshots. These are usually posted in response to a specific issue that I'm trying to fix for a user. If you're having issues with the production builds it may be worth downloading the snapshot build. The production build must already be installed as I only provide the engine binaries. Here are the links:engineRelease.exeengineDeveloper.exe

Baja 2.7.5 Released

I just posted version 2.7.5... it is highly recommended that everyone upgrade. Highlights of this release include compatibility with Intel cards, draw and picking optimizations, and a significantly improved (but still not usable) editor. As the editor is still not considered usable (it still lacks a functional UV editor, etc) I will have to continue to impose the 'invitation only' restriction. I apologize for the long wait time that some of you have had to endure, but I wanted to hold off on invites until this update was posted as it is significantly improved over 2.7. If I missed you resend your request.I'm going to be busy with other stuff for the next few months so I don't expect that I'll be able to get 2.8 up until early 2008. It will hopefully bring the editor into a usable state.

Baja 2.7 Released

I just put the brand new version 2.7 of Baja up on the server! You can grab it on the Downloads Page and then view the Release Notes. The good news is that this is probably the most substantial release we've made from an interface point of view. Plus, it includes a whole lot of cool new stuff: new objects, a command line only linux version of the engine, obj import, and a ridiculous number of bug fixes and performance improvements. The bad news is that the editor is nowhere near as far along as I hoped it would be at this point. In the effort of getting this release out the door before I go to SIGGRAPH, I released it despite its flaws. Realistically speaking, I wouldn't try to use the editor for anything serious at this point... however, you will be able to see where we're going with the interface. Comments on the interface would be greatly appreciated.I'm going to try to fix most of the editor bugs for 2.8, which will come out around the end of the summer (September). Plus, I have some performance optimizations planned that may make for ridiculous speed improvements on some specific cards. Plus, I'm making progress on tracking down root cause of the remaining 'known bad' platforms, Intel GMA and the Radeon 9200. As soon as I can get that cleared up I think that the engine should run fine on any reasonable configuration. As mentioned previously, 2.8/2.9/3.0 will not involve any new features, just bug fixed and optimizations.

July Plans

There are a few cool things planned for the Baja engine this month. First, our next release, 2.7, includes an integrated editor (in addition to around 5 other big features). I believe that the biggest problem people have been having with Baja is that there isn't good editor support (only XSI is supported currently, and installation is complicated). With the new editor, you will be able to install Baja and immediately start making a game just by launching the editor from the start menu - no more XSI plugins/etc required. 2.7 should be released by the end of the month. In 2.7, the editor and the other new features will be considered somewhat 'beta', but they should be functional, just not polished. 2.8,2.9, and 3.0 will not have any new features (except for possibly a small extension to the levelManager api that will allow for viewports and multi-level drawing). These releases will instead focus on ensuring that all of the specified features of Baja work correctly and that everything is documented.Secondly, we are getting a new dedicated server because we've outgrown our current one. This should rectify the slow load times that we've been having, and allow us absorb increasing traffic in the future.Thirdly, I will be attending SIGGRAPH in August. I won't be representing Baja there, but if anyone wants to meet up with me and talk, or just hang out, drop me a line.

I've been extremely busy for the last few months, so I haven't been able to be around to support Baja. I apologize that I haven't been able to respond to emails and thread topics - for the next few months at least I think I will have enough time to keep on top of things. More updates (and probably a updated version of the engine) to follow in a few weeks.
